WORKING IN WINDOWS
NCI computers have an operating system called Windows XP.
Windows XP provides the screen you first see when you start the computer (the desktop) and the system of menus and commands which allows you to start up various programs, and look at or create materials.
Activity
If you are new to Windows, it's suggested that you try the Wordprocessing tutorial and then read the Creating and managing files guide. In this way you will learn as you do.

USING NCI COMPUTERS
Most students use NCI computers to:
create documents (assignments, essays, letters, job applications etc.) and other tasks involving the recording and presenting of information in print or graphic (picture) form, using Microsoft Office software.
access and post information via the Internet
COMPUTER-RELATED EQUIPMENT
Printers are available to print out your work, or print Internet pages. There may be a page charge, and black and white/colour options are usually available. Scanners are available to convert paper-based information (print or graphic) to computer readable form.
